Inexcusable by Chris Lynch is a haunting book. The character thinks of himself as a "good guy", but does the opposite without even thinking that he is doing anything but being in love with the girl. Chilling to see how he thinks and acts.

I absolutely loved 'Memoirs of Cleopatra' by Margaret George. You really feel like you are in Alexandria, Egypt. Cleopatra comes across as not only brilliant but far more sympathetic than you might expect. Don't believe the movies! Read this book! Linda
I highly recommend the TinTin series of books. It is very well-known in Europe, but a bit of a secret here in the U.S. The series originates in Belgium, but is translated -- very well, by the way -- into many different languages, including Spanish and English.
With these colorful and well-written books, children get acquainted with a wide variety of heroic (as well as villainous) characters from all over the world.
I suggest Kite Runner,a book that opens our mind to issues in the world.
Right now I am reading a wonderful book called A Fine Balance by Rohiton Mistry. It opense your eyes to some situations people lived through to be where the world is today. Polly Miglani

A few (more) of my favorites....
These are my favorite children's books...books that I have read to all my children and our copies of these books are well-worn but greatly loved.
Where The Wild Things Are....How do you choose a favorite line from this book? It's nearly impossible...I will forever hear my son reading along with me..."and into the night of his very own room, where he found his dinner waiting for him.....and it was still hot."
The Very Hungry Catepillar....The artwork in this book is simple and beautiful; bursts of color on every page. My chidren and I never tire of reading this book, even though, by the second read, we had it memorized. I can still pull this book out for bedtime reading and as soon as I say, "The Very Hungry Catepillar?", my kids are saying "Yeah! Yeah!"
I think these are books that my children love so much that they will one day be reading them to thier own children.
